Scott Ambler's new book Agile Modeling: Effective Practices for Extreme Programming and the Unified Process is out.
Agile Modeling (AM) is a chaordic, practice-based methodology for effective modeling of software-based systems. The AM methodology is a collection of practices – guided by principles and values – that are meant to be applied by software professionals on a day-to-day basis. AM is not a prescriptive process, in other words it does not define detailed procedures for how to create a given type of model, instead it provides advice for how to be effective as a modeler. AM is “touchy-feely” in that it is not hard and fast – think of AM as an art, not a science. [More...]
The Design Patterns Workshop is now available. This three day class explains design patterns and how they fit into Object Oriented design. Patterns covered include design patterns, architectural patterns, J2EE/EJB patterns, analysis patterns, process patterns and anti-patterns. [More...]
The Advanced Use Case Writing Workshop is now available. This two day course teaches techniques for writing high quality use cases. Student retention of these techniques is optimized as the course spends the majority of time in hands-on labs applying the techniques discussed. [More...]
The Unified Process is quickly becoming the de facto standard development process within the object-oriented and component-based software communities. Is it sufficient? Ronin International's experience is that it isn't, in fact, by its very scope definition it is insufficient because we need more than a development process, we need a software process. In one day the Enterprise Unified Process course, we take a close look at the Unified Process and compare and contrast three leading processes - the Object-Oriented Software Process (OOSP) as described in the books Process Patterns and More Process Patterns, the OPEN Process, and the Unified Process -- and show how features of the OOSP and OPEN can be used to tailor an enhanced lifecycle for the Unified Process that meets the real-world needs of software professionals.
